It’s a common question (how often to publish content), so I wanted to address it here.
How Often Is Too Often?
How often you post content really depends on the purpose of your blog. If you are starting as a hobby, then publish a blog whenever you feel inspired. After all, your blog is a hobby for you and you should treat it just like any other activity that you enjoy doing.
If your intention is to build a community of followers, or to make money, then your approach would be different. In this scenario, remember that you are serving other people. If you do not give them a reason to visit your blog and to come back, then you will be defeating the purpose.
Quick story...
You can’t make money by throwing up a website, sticking in a link to an affiliate product, and just waiting for the money to roll in. It does not work like that. Nothing is for nothing, and blogging is not a get-rich-quick scheme. You can make money blogging, but you have to provide value. Generally, provide a little value, make a little money… provide a lot of value, make a lot of money. Of course there are exceptions on both sides, but know that you get out what you put in.
That guy needed to commit to his blog and become a valuable content provider.
Answering the question…
How often should you post content. Generally, you can post 1 to 3 times a week. This keeps your content fresh, which keeps Google happy (for SEO), and as long as your content is great, it will also keep your audience happy. Happy people will come back.
One you have growing traffic, you can then monetize your blog commensurate with the value you provide.
To summarize
If you are blogging as a hobby, just blog as you see fit and you can always decide to up the ante at any point. If you are blogging to make money or to build an active community, you must provide ongoing value.
On this blog, I’ve been blogging every day because I recently launched it. After 30 days of blogging daily, I will then blog around twice a week. This blog began making money less than a week after it was launched (that surprised even me). I launched it two weeks ago today.
