Choosing to start a blog is about choosing a life that you control… a life of freedom. It is also choosing over your other Internet marketing choices. Blogging requires a bit of extra work in the beginning, but provides so many benefits in the long term.
The purpose of this post is not only to tell you why you should start a blog, but also to help you decide if blogging is the best choice for you for you online business. I’ll make some compelling points to help you decide.
I’ve been going down the “make money online” road for a while. I’ve tried all sorts of different methods of Internet marketing, and I can see benefits to having a blog that you may not be able to see.
After all, blogging seems so complicated (although really, it’s not) because there is so much to do and set up. It seemed so much simpler to set up a page and pitch an affiliate product. I’ve implemented so many IM techniques, and none (at least most) are just not as simple and easy as they tell you it is.
Blogging provides a different perspective. So let’s get into it.
I can think of a million reasons to start a blog. Ok, that may be a slight exaggeration, but for real, I can think of so many great reasons to start a blog. There’s way to many to list here, so I am going to cover the most compelling reasons that you may relate to.
Remember, blogging is Internet marketing. IM is a catch-all phrase that people use to describe all facets of the online business.
You are probably reading this because you either want to learn to make money online, or you want to know more about blogging. Blogging is certainly a great way to make money online (I’ll tell you why in just a moment), but there are other reasons to blog which may have nothing to do with income. For instance, you may be looking for a platform to record and track your own knowledge – in any niche.
Example of why to track your own knowledge:
9 Reasons Why You Should Start A Blog
1) It’s the best way to get into Internet marketing (making money online)
If you are interested in making money online, you probably already know that “Internet marketing” is the all-encompassing catch phrase that refers to making money online. It’s a very wide field, and includes ebooks, ecourses, article marketing, forums, videos, podcasting, pay per click advertising, cost per action, niche marketing, affiliate marketing, and of course, blogging. And this is not even a complete list.
I’ve tried just about all of it. I’ve written ebooks, done PPC and CPA marketing, I have a podcast, in fact I’ve done everything on that list above. I wasn’t trying to do everything, I was just trying to figure it out. I have found that most of those techniques require a great deal of time and effort. I also learned that by choosing a niche that I am good at, makes everything a thousand percent easier. It became fun.
I have found that the easiest way to get into Internet marketing is by starting a blog. That’s because I get to choose a niche I am good with, and build from there. It’s easy to create content when you have a passion for the niche. I am never at a loss to come up with a topic for a blog post. Additional benefits include building a community, the ability to build an email list, the ability to make money without having to sell anything directly (although that can be done too), and owning your own web property.
2) You can blog from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection
This is a big one for me because I love to travel. If you have a full time job and you blog part time, this one may not impact you – at least not yet. Once you make enough money from your blog, you can then leave your job and create the lifestyle that you really want.
As a blogger, I am a writer. As long as I have Internet access, I can write and post to my blog from anywhere. You can do the same.
3) You can make money
This may be what you are after. Lot’s of people decide they want to make money online, and falsely believe they can just learn a few Internet marking techniques and watch the money roll in. It does not work that way. You need to have something to offer in exchange for getting paid. There are no free rides in this universe. Luckily, blogs are an easy way display what you have to offer. Seriously, I just saved you years off of your Internet marketing journey.
4) It can be a business or a hobby
Yes. We already discussed above that you can get into blogging for business purposes or for personal reasons.
It’s best to combine both… doing what you love, and making money. What a life!
Of course, it can be business or a hobby, or anywhere in between and can be interchanged.
If you are not really sure where to take it, you can start it as a hobby and watch your audience grow. You can then turn it into a business. How cool is that? That’s a great reason to start a blog right there!
And when it comes to making money, you can blog to make a few extra bucks, you can blog as a primary source of income, or you can blog to build wealth.
5) You can blog as much or as little as you want
Getting started in blogging has no major commitment. However, I do suggest strongly that you do commit. But it’s nice to know that you control your time and effort for blogging.
6) You can express your passion
A blog is perhaps the best platform to display your passion for anything that is important to you. By putting your knowledge and info into a blog, you are establishing yourself as an expert.
7) You can share your interests
If you are looking for a way to share information, forget writing papers and email documents. A blog is the best way to share information. If you have proprietary information, you can set up a private members only area on your blog for this information. You can even decide whether you want to charge for that information and automate the whole process on your blog.
8) You can help other people
This one is a big driving force for me. I love to help people and I love to share my knowledge and experience. I have been a business consultant and coach, but there is no way I can reach as many people as I can through my blog.
9) It’s enjoyable
Blogging is fun. A lot of the other Internet marketing techniques just weren’t fun. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed doing those other things (some of which I still do).
For example, it was a lot of effort to write an article for a niche that I chose because it is “hot”. My niche websites are producing, so I leave them alone, but really, not so much fun creating them.
Blogging is the sweet spot for me. Again, that’s because I am in two niches I love and enjoy (I have two blogs). Blogging gives you the ability to choose any niche that appeals to you. And that is why I make such a big deal of choosing a field of knowledge and/or interest.
In Conclusion
Now you have my take on why you should start a blog over other ways of making money online. Again, this is more than why to start a blog, but also about deciding if you should start a blog. Are you ready?
